The Rambler’s Rest Bed and Breakfast is located at the head of the Shop River Road, on the outskirts of Enniskerry. The surrounding hamlet once housed workers from the neighbouring Powerscourt Estate. The nearest point to the Wicklow Way is 2km away, on the road to Glencree, at the entrance to Curtlestown Woods.
The B&B sits on an acre of land with the house being set back from the road. The house guest bedrooms all have their own private bathroom. Fresh towels and toiletries are provided. Guests are welcome to relax in the large lounge. There is a wide collection of books to read. Free wifi is available and there is a television to catch up with the latest news. Musical guests are welcome to play the grand piano or guitars and other musical instruments.
The front garden has a large lawned area with plenty of garden furniture. Nearby are mountains Sugarloaf, Knockree, Maulin, Tonduff and Kippure. Behind the house is an enclosed pebbled courtyard which provides a more sheltered area to relax outdoors. The Shop River forms one of the garden boundaries. Although there is no access to the river, the sound of the flowing is ever present. In addition to this there is birdsong, the crowing of the local roosters and the call of the cuckoo can also often be heard in the Summer.
Dublin Bus provide an hourly bus service to the area. The bus terminus for route 185 is just outside the house and connects up with the commuter train to Dublin. Alternatively, the bus route 44 links Enniskerry to Dublin .
The Rambler’s Rest can provide transport to and from the Wicklow Way and Enniskerry provided there is enough advance notice given for a small fee.
Walkers can have a packed lunch organised for them once the owner is notified upon arrival. Baggage transfers to the next accommodation on the Wicklow Way can be facilitated by Wicklow Way Baggage.
